About the Role

Reporting to the Fleet & Asset manager, this role involves management and delegation of tasks to direct reports in an efficient and timely manner in accordance with the maintenance and workshop procedures.


  • Responsibility to create a positive environment that inspires employees to work safely, efficiently and effectively to meet departmental targets
  • Oversee the workshop operations daily ensuring all trailers & trucks are mechanically sound, safe and compliant to Government legislation and to customer requirements
  • Ensure costs are kept within budget for the workshop & fleet cost centres
  • Manage staffing levels in the workshop and ensure hours are reasonable while meeting the requirements of the business
  • Develop and train all employees to an autonomous level ensuring they are aware of Company targets and performance levels relating to safety & customer service
  • Liaise with Internal Customers to ensure all vehicles and equipment is available as per customer requirements
  • Ensure all paperwork processes are completed accurately and efficiently
  • Participate & contribute to monthly meetings with Plant /Asset Manager
  • Produce weekly report for submission to Plant /Asset Manager
  • Participate & contribute in recruitment and retention strategies
  • Performance management of staff

Skills and Experience

  • Trade certified in Heavy Diesel Mechanics
  • Experience in a similar role 5 years
  • Exposure working with American & European Prime Movers and Cummins engines
  • Sound mechanical aptitude and knowledge
  • Exposure using computer-based maintenance systems
  • Proven ability to supervise and motivate personnel
  • Good organisation and planning skills
  • Ability to comply with company procedures and policies
