Trainee Disability Support Workers – Indigenous Opportunities

Apprenticeship Careers Australia, in partnership with the NSW Aboriginal Land Council’s subsidiary, Yilabara Solutions, are implementing a NSW Government initiative, More Jobs More Care (MJMC), which is a state-wide talent development program to develop the skills of individuals wishing to become Disability Support Workers.

As a part of this program, we have identified and sourced a number of part and full time Traineeship opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Macarthur region. These positions provide the opportunity for ongoing employment of trained individuals who will support people with disabilities fulfil their NDIS Plans.

As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to work with a well-known, reputable service provider that has been long established in the community and that will support you as you commence and work through a Traineeship and achieve a Certificate III in Individual Support qualification.

The Traineeship is a paid employment position with all leave entitlements available.

As a part of the More Jobs More Care initiative, you will need undertake a free, short, 3-week pre-employment training program designed to give you the initial nationally recognised skills and competencies to move straight into the disability support sector with confidence.

We will also pay for your First Aid Certificate training, as well as the mandatory Police Check, NDIS Check and the Working with Children Check once you commence the training.

The program will be delivered by one of our nationally accredited and government approved Registered Training Organisations and is completely free of charge and includes:

  • Comply with Infection Control
  • Safe Work Practices for Direct Client Care
  • Communicate & Work in Health & Community Services
  • Provide First Aid
  • Provide Individualised Support

No prior experience is necessary, and our dedicated Indigenious mentoring team will provide ongoing mentoring during the short pre-employment course and during the trianeeship once you commence work.

These Traineeships are identified as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander positions and are open to all ages.
