The purpose of Student Support Services is to assist children and young people facing a range of barriers to learning to achieve their educational and developmental potential through the provision of a range of strategies and specialised support at individual, group, school and Area levels.

Student Support Services (SSS) comprise psychologists, speech pathologists and social workers. SSS work as part of an integrated health and wellbeing team within the department’s Area multi-disciplinary teams, focusing on providing group based and individual support, workforce capacity building, and the provision of specialised services.

The role of SSS Team Leader is to manage a local team of SSS employees to support a group of schools in the delivery of student support services to improve student learning outcomes. In collaboration with schools the role is responsible for identifying, developing, and coordinating strategies aimed at quality universal services for all students and supporting schools in addressing wellbeing issues proactively.

The SSS Team Leader in conjunction with the SSS Branch Manager will drive the implementation of evidence based and multidisciplinary approaches in collaboration with the Area Team and coordinate effective responses to emergencies and critical incidents.

The SSS Team Leader provides professional leadership that supports their team and provides specialist advice to management and school leaders. Engagement and negotiation with community service organisations including DHHS, Hospitals, Specialist programs and other professions is required to support the needs of students and schools.
