The Role
QInsure’s Underwriting team have an opportunity for an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Underwriter to join them on a permanent basis. The Senior Underwriter is accountable for assessing and accepting risks within agreed levels of authority in line with QInsure’s underwriting policy and guidelines.
You’ll apply your underwriting expertise to the assessment of applications for insurance, proactively liaising with members to optimise outcomes, and ensuring quality decisions are made within agreed time frames.
You’ll use your high level understanding of insurance products, as it relates to underwriting, to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation that support the strategic direction, as well as assisting the Tele-Interview team during peak periods to provide exceptional member experience.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications
The ideal Senior Underwriter will demonstrate some or most of the below:
- Extensive underwriting experience
- Fully proficient and experienced in tele-underwriting
- Experienced in a senior underwriting role within the Life Insurance industry with a focus on life, income protection, total & permanent disability (TPD)
- Proven technical expertise with regard to:
- Analysing financial and medical information and application in the assessment of risk
- Assessment of mortality and morbidity risk
- Detailed knowledge of the insurance industry and regulatory environment
- Strategic awareness and informed commercial decision making.
- Ability to liaise, advise, influence and engage with a range of stakeholders, including external partners, doctors, accounts, senior management
- Interest and ability in coaching and mentoring fellow team members
- Ability and interest in identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives
- Demonstrated highly developed verbal, written, presentation & influencing skills
- Understanding of the process for identification, assessment, and escalation risks according to the Risk Management framework
- Responsibility to stay current and enhance personal learning and development with regard to product and industry changes and trends
