About the role

You will be responsible for designing and developing major information and communications technology (ICT) and eResearch projects for the Centre for eResearch and Digital Innovation (CeRDI). You will manage systems, databases and associated business processes and will also be responsible for leading the development, implementation and continuous improvement of knowledge management, eResearch, decision support and spatial mapping systems. You will liaise with CeRDI researchers and other stakeholders to obtain ICT and eResearch requirements and develop technology specifications for users.

You may be required to travel to other University campuses and to partner locations across Australia.

About you

Reporting to the Director, CeRDI and working with a degree of autonomy under the broad direction of the Manager Technical Projects, you will be responsible for managing major ICT and eResearch projects that require in-depth knowledge and understanding of the issues that are critical for success in relation to complex technology projects.

You will bring your experience in leading the development of knowledge management, eResearch and spatial mapping systems so they perform efficiently and reliability and operate with optimally to users. You will develop web-based applications implementing and consuming APIs and web services. You will bring your expert knowledge of PHP – with experience with modern frameworks highly regarded (Laravel preferred), knowledge of MySQL and/or PostgreSQL/PostGIS, advanced knowledge of Javascript and CSS and ability to use Git to the role.

Experience with front-end libraries (Bootstrap, Vue.js), Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket), Linux command line, geospatial data and Python, is highly regarded.

You will:

  • undertake analysis of ICT and eResearch requirements and lead technologies continuous improvement;
  • ensure technical and end user documentation and resources are developed and regularly updated for the use of other technical staff;
  • meet technical standards and quality measures by providing analytical support, developing test plans, undertaking unit, functional, performance and security testing of completed code and applying continuous improvement in areas including efficient user interfaces, responsive user interface designs, and compliant and accessible content; and
  • ensure development effort, technical and infrastructure resources are allocated and monitored in accordance with overall project allocations.
