You will play a pivotal role in supporting good communication throughout the health units for measures to achieve optimal infection and prevention control. Increasing the awareness of prevention and control of infection in clinical practice, you will educate staff and provide feedback on local performance. A key focus will be on hand hygiene practices and correct use of personal protective equipment. You will actively liaise with the Infection Control Service, nursing, medical, allied health and ancillary staff, as well as cleaners, contractors and consumers. As part of your role you will undertake appropriate monitoring and surveillance measures within South Australian health units, using audit tools to address the requirements of the National Standards for Safety and Quality in Healthcare. This will include identifying potential cross-infection risks and assisting with any outbreak investigations. You will generate regular summary reports to the Infection Prevention and Control Unit to allow health service managers to monitor activities and progress.
You will need to be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and hold a current practicing certificate. This will be supported by demonstrated competence in a relevant area of nursing practice in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice. Effective communication, problem solving, negotiation and education skills will be essential. You will bring the ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and to prioritise workloads and meet set timelines whilst working under minimal direct supervision.
