Leading an initial team that consists of 4 direct reports, a fleet of 20+ plus trucks, yard and driver team of 30 + and sub-contractors, that is constantly growing.

You will provide a critical link between sales goals, and logistics capabilities. As such, a close working relationship with the sales team will be fundamental. 

Building strong business relationships with both internal and external customers meeting and then exceeding their expectations.

Reporting to the General Manager:-

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: including but not limited to:-

  • Key KPI’s bullet points include:
    • Team, Safety and Culture
    • Fleet and Assets management
    • Budgets, costs and margins
    • Client relationships
  • Ownership, accountability and responsibility for all aspects of the Transport Operations division
  • You will be responsible for managing the Transport and Logistics Supervisor, Night Transport Supervisor, Logistics Co-ordinator, Yard and Crane Supervisor, who in turn supervise the yard and driver team.
  • Work closely with the Head of Governance Global, Finance Manager, Business Development Manager and Manager – People and Culture.
  • Develop strong relationships with our customers, especially the Tier 1 contract clients, to be on top of their requirements and contractual deliverables
  • Maintain safety, environment and quality outcomes and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Effective management of scheduling collections/delivery routes, including route optimisation, backloads and best cost and margin scenario
  • Work closely with the Transport and Logistics Supervisors to improve performance and continually increase fleet productivity 
  • Ensure your supervisory team effectively co-ordinate with drivers and crane crew, and provide supervision for all yard activity and freight, based in Laverton North, and including additional sites
  • Develop effective working relationships with customers and drivers to maintain and exceed service levels
  • Develop and nurture a culture of inclusion, learning, teamwork and team engagement



  • This role calls for an Operations Manager who is driven to succeed through team engagement and an understanding of principles that underpin excellence in transport operations.
  • You enjoy being hands on, thrive under pressure, can manage change and work with your team to find solutions to the day to day challenges, whilst ensuring safe work practice.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years previous experience in a similar role involving transport scheduling, labour allocating, transport depot operations and maintenance scheduling activities
  • Sound knowledge of Heavy Vehicle Operations (HVO) including fatigue, maintenance, mass, dimension and load restraint management
  • Previous experience with Fleet Management Software Systems – Navman;
  • Awareness of government regulatory requirements involving Chain of Responsibility
  • Completion of any relevant tertiary Transport, Logistics, Management or business courses – an advantage but not essential
  • Willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done in deliverables to our customers internally and externally
  • ‘Hands on’ approach without blinkers with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Strong leadership qualities, including people and time management skills
  • Ability to make effective decisions in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
  • Be a driving force to develop and implement processes to improve business efficiencies
  • Highly motivated and organised to set and achieve goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • KPI and customer focused with the ability to perform under pressure
  • Exceptional people and time management skills & the ability to prioritise competing tasks 
  • Possess high level computer literacy including experience with Microsoft applications
  • Understanding of NHVR and heavy vehicle compliance
  • Able to successfully satisfy a pre-employment medical and police check.
