THE POSITION

To develop professional relationships with external experts (EEs), key stakeholders, researchers and members of the scientific community, through the provision and exchange of appropriate scientific/clinical information in their designated therapeutic areas.

To collaborate with internal stakeholders to support and shape strategy and drive scientific/clinical knowledge through medical activity execution, training and insights gathering and sharing. Provides leadership and is seen as a role-model within MSL team.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Provides medical and scientific information to internal and external stakeholders (EEs/HCPs, authorities,
    clinical research teams) in order to ensure medical affairs objectives are realized and Boehringer Ingelheim’s image is well supported in the marketplace whilst maintaining ethics and company standards.
  • Deals with requests for local medical information from EEs. Develops responses to non-standard scientific medical questions in collaboration with the Medical Advisor.
  • Identification and mapping of key EEs, scientific networks and where appropriate health consumer organizations.
  • Work with local EEs to support local IIS studies by facilitating interactions with the corresponding Medical Advisor and ROPU MA, support of local publications and CME events.rains and educates other functions (e.g. marketing colleagues, sales force etc.)
  • Provides business support through product presentations when requested. 
  • Is recognised as an excellent collaborator and a ‘go-to’ person for cross-functional colleagues.
  • Perform all company business in accordance with all applicable regulations/legislation (e.g.. Medicines
  • Australia Code of Conduct, Therapeutic Goods Act) and BI policies and procedures.
  • Active management of relationship with identified EEs, through face to face individual and group scientific exchanges; and documentation and tracking of all interactions in the company provided platforms.
  • Establish relationships for scientific exchange with the agreed target of EEs, involving an expected 70-80% of the MSL’s time dedicated to field-based external expert engagement activities and according to the agreed plan.
  • Support the Go to Market strategy in accordance with the ICP, ensure customer channel preferences are identified and tailored to.
  • Ensure ongoing medical education is provided as appropriate through peer to peer education through varied medium eg digital vs face to face.
  • Consistently meets engagement metrics and demonstrates high proficiency level in customer engagement model.
  • Attendance of local and international conferences as required to maintain up to date knowledge and interact with EEs in attendance. 
  • Demonstrates leadership at a strategic and operational level in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement cross-functionally and within the MSL team in key projects, processes and systems.
  • Role models the MSL role requirements, AAI behaviors, and engagement with the business.
    Coaches and mentors others in the team with a solution focused approach.
  • As required, deputizing for MSL Manager role where appropriate.
  • Agility to efficiently upskill in a new therapeutic area / new indication as required by the business.

Requirements

Education/Qualifications

  • MD and/or PHD and/or Masters Medicine and/or Pharmacology and/or Biology

Experience, Skills and Competencies

  • Some years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or several years clinical experience in therapeutic area.
  • Australian pharmaceutical industry guidelines (MA Code of Conduct), regulatory/reimbursement framework (TGA, PBS) and clinical research guidelines (ICH-GCP, NHMRC National Statement).
  • Demonstrated abilities in the delivery and clear communication of scientific findings in both large audience and 1-1 settings; building long-term relationship with KOLs, physicians and patient associations; the analysis and interpretation of complex medical data, operating in cross-functional team and collaborating effectiveness.
  • Influencing – Convinces and persuades others with logical arguments, highlighting benefits and overcoming objections; respects others opinion; asserts own views diplomatically and tactfully; works out where compromises can be made. 
  • Communication – Presents ideas persuasively tailored to audience in a group or individual setting.
    Integrates masterfully a broad range of results, draws conclusions on complex matters, and customizes delivery to target audience.
