Governance Officer

This role supports the Board and its members and subcommittees through preparation and organisation of Board meetings and papers, briefings, correspondence, and reporting. This role also provides corporate services to the management and staff of the VRQA through the organisation and logistics associated with staff meetings and events, corporate administration and government agency reporting such as Freedom of Information. The nature of this role means that superior writing and proof-reading skills are absolutely essential, as well as intermediate level skills with common software applications.

Success in this role will require an ability to bring together the input of others to form quality papers, reports and information sources. The role will be a key contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding governance matters so good customer service skills and a strong presence in the office are requirements.

An eye for detail and the capacity to work in a busy environment where staff routinely interact face-to-face is a must. You’ll need to work well under time pressure leading up to board meetings, maintain exceptional quality standards and use effective work-tracking tools to ensure the little things don’t get forgotten.  Personal qualities that are critical to this role are an eye for detail, high levels of initiative and follow-up,the ability to respond to multiple pressures in a calm and efficient manner and strong record keeping skills.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to broaden their public sector, secretariat and governance skills through a diverse range of business-as-usual responsibilities and governance projects. Experience in a similar function (for example working with a Board or in a governance role) is desirable.
