Dive & Resort Activities Manager – Lizard Island Resort

Lizard Island Resort is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Resort Dive & Activities Manager to lead the Activities team at our stunning 5* luxury resort just over an hour’s flight north of Cairns, QLD. Set within crystal clear aquamarine waters, this stunning 5 star property has something for everyone; whether it be diving at the world famous Cod Hole, snorkelling at the stunning Giant Clam gardens, hiking the many tracks or simply relaxing at one of our 24 white powdery beaches. The Island is also home to the Lizard Island Research Station which is a world-leading coral reef research and education facility.

The Opportunity;

Reporting to the General Manager you will be responsible for leading, managing and developing the Resort Activities team to deliver outstanding guest service standards, constantly exceeding expectations to deliver a once in a lifetime memorable experience for our guests. Along with this you will also take responsibility for ensuring regulatory compliance and maintenance standards of marine and activities equipment and assets. This is a hands-on operational role which requires outstanding team leadership and guest service skills. Duties and responsibilities of the position include:

  • Salary: $82,125 super inclusive
  • Ensuring the consistency, quality and integrity of guest activities are held at the highest level at all times and that every guest is provided with a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience
  • Overseeing the daily operations of the activities team including but not limited to: overseeing the activities scheduling and booking processes, rostering, labour/cost forecasting, stock and revenue management, team motivation, training and development
  • Ensure that safety and security standards are upheld for all land, marine and diving services that are offered to guests and resort employees and regulatory compliance for all marine, diving and land activities
  • Ensure that the Activities Department and equipment is maintained in a safe, secure and legally compliant manner and that and the department and surrounding beaches are clean, tidy and presentable at all times
  • Ensure reports on all accidents/incidents involving vessels, passengers and equipment are provided in a timely manner in-line with Delaware North Policies and Procedures and Governmental Workplace Health and Safety requirements
  • Manage the development and implementation of new activities and ideas to enhance the guest experience on the island
  • Maintain a safe work and guest environment by assisting with implementation of OH&S policies and procedures

What you will bring to the role;

  • Demonstrated extensive leadership, communication and consultation skills preferably within a resort/activities context
  • A broad knowledge of the activities and marine/dive industry
  • A high degree of attention to detail along with demonstrated experience in managing regulatory/safety processes and procedures
  • Demonstration of strong organisational skills with the ability to take control and provide direction to other staff and guests in the event of an emergency.
  • Knowledge and/or qualifications in the Australian Dive/Marine legislation and best practice is preferred
  • Enthusiastic, engaging and active personality and an active team player
  • First Aid qualifications, or willingness to obtain (essential)

The Following Certifications and Licenses are essential:

  • Current Padi Dive Instructor certification issued by a recognized training agency
  • Oxygen Provider Certification
  • Current MED (optional)
  • Queensland Workplace Health & Safety approved First Aid and CPR certificates
  • Queensland Workplace Health and Safety At Sea (Elements of Shipboard Safety) accreditation
  • Current AS2299 diving medical certificate by SPUMS accredited physician
  • Current personal indemnity insurance (minimum cover $5,000,000)
  • Regulator technicians certificate for Aqua lung
  • Tractor License (not mandatory)
  • Restricted Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency in radiotelephony
