Full-time, ongoing
May be located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney
The Executive Officer provides high-level support to the AAT Deputy President who is the Head of the Social Services & Child Support Division and other divisional leaders.
The Executive Officer:
- is the Division’s key point of liaison for internal and external stakeholders
- coordinates or contributes to the delivery of complex and/or sensitive projects with strategic or operational significance
- prepares high-quality written communications including briefs, caseload information, correspondence, policy documents and speaking notes
- supervises an Executive Assistant
The successful applicant will have:
- the ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgement
- analytical, research and problem-solving skills, including the ability to initiate and contribute to business improvements
- communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and work as part of a team
- the ability to manage competing and changing priorities in a complex environment
- knowledge of, or the ability to quickly gain knowledge of, the caseload, operations, and legislative and policy frameworks of the AAT and the Social Services & Child Support Division
- the ability to supervise and develop staff.
Some interstate travel may be required.

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) was established on 1 July 1976 and provides a one-stop shop for the independent review of a wide range of decisions made by the Australian Government.
The AAT can review decisions made under more than 400 Commonwealth and Norfolk Island laws, and in limited circumstances, decisions made by state government and non-government bodies. The most common types of decisions we review relate to child support, Commonwealth workers’ compensation, family assistance, paid parental leave, social security, student assistance, migration and refugee visas and visa related decisions, taxation and veterans’ entitlements.
